New railway line to connect Russia and China

A new railway route has been launched between Guangzhou in Southern China and Vorsino in the Kaluga Region. The station-to-station distance is 11.5 thousand kilometers and the travel time is 14 days, which is 30 days less than in container shipping.

The first freight train mostly loaded with clothing and electronics left on Monday morning.
The new railway line is intended to reduce the time and cost of transporting goods from China. The cost will be almost five times lower than when transported by sea.

This route is launched as part of the Silk Road Project aimed at the development of the transport networks across Russia and China. In the future it is planned to use an extensive railway network to transport both cargo and passengers.
